21 February 2023 - In the context of Celebration of International Year of Millets 2023, an essay writing competition was conducted to Diploma students of Agriculture Polytechnic, Tornala on the Role and importance of millets in human health and in the context of climate change on 16-02-2023 by APT, Tornala in association with Nehru Yuva Kendra, Siddipet, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India and prizes were distributed to the winners.

On this occasion, Dr. S. Sridevi, Principal of APT & Principal Scientist and Head, ARS, Tornala discussed the crucial role of agricultural students in creating awareness on millets as they have the good knowledge of various activities from cultivation of millets to value addition.

Sri M Ranjith Reddy, District Youth Officer, NYK reiterated that youth can create awareness more effectively and suggested that students may visit the nearby schools once in fortnight and play an active role in promotion of millets.

Sr. G Kiran Kumar, District Program officer, NYK, Siddipet suggested that students can create awareness through small acts and skits in villages and educational institutions.

Mr. Shashank received 1st prize while Ms A.Vasantha and Mr Bharadwaj Chari were the recipients of 2nd and 3rd prizes respectively. About 32 students took part in the essay writing competition. Dr D. Swetha, Scientist (Agronomy), ARS, Tornala also took part in the programme.
